Summary
The Manager, Engineering is accountable for coordinating and leading projects, making detailed plans to accomplish goals and directing the integration of technical activities.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the engineering team, providing guidance, mentoring, and training to ensure the team's success and professional growth
- Review and approve engineering designs in conjunction with the engineering staff
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including management, production, and quality assurance
- Direct, review, approve, and implement new designs, design changes, and process improvements
- Interpret technical reports
- Provide technical support and guidance to resolve complex manufacturing issues, troubleshoot problems, and optimize production output
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives and lean manufacturing principles to enhance productivity, reduce waste, and improve overall operational performance.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements, and industry standards
- Collaborate with suppliers and vendors to source and evaluate new technologies, materials, and equipment to improve manufacturing processes and reduce costs.
- Ensure on-time delivery of drawings
- Review engineering production performance as part of the overall company goals
- Oversee the areas of performance appraisals and progressive discipline as required
- Manage the collection and storage of rig-specific technical information
- Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning and the coordination of people and resources
- Ability to effectively lead and manage engineering teams
- Various other duties and special projects as required
Knowledge & Skills
Proficiency with Autodesk CAD and Inventor software is essential
Experience with other 3D software, FEA, Ansys, and Safi is an asset
Detailed understanding of the application of mechanical engineering design, troubleshooting, and system engineering
Strong work ethic and positive team attitude
Ability to converse and collaborate with other departments spanning multi-disciplinary skill sets
Maintain a high level of concentration and creativity, exacting detail and analyzing technical information
Proficiency in solving engineering problems using analytical techniques and engineering data
Comprehensive understanding of product and business requirements, as well as a general knowledge of appropriate materials, components, and technologies used in the oilfield drilling industry
Understanding of the interrelationship of technologies and their effect on product design, including serviceability, manufacturability, safety, and reliability
Proficient with word processing, spreadsheet, and database software applications
Troubleshooting skills to identify and resolve problems through the interpretation and analysis of technical information
Ability to identify complex problems and analytically review related information to develop and evaluate options before implementing solutions
Education
University Degree in Mechanical Engineering
Member of APEGGA or ASET in good standing
Experience
5+ years of related experience, of which at least 2 years must have been in a managerial capacity
Manufacturing and quality control experience in an oilfield drilling equipment environment
