The Senior Data Developer will be part of Precision’s drilling optimization team and will support our Alpha™ Technologies product line by developing and supporting our operational technologies and data solutions, leveraging modern data mining techniques and machine learning techniques over large data sets. You will get to work with high-frequency datasets, ranging from real-time (up to 2-10 Hz) data to transactional data.



  • Design and develop high-quality and testable batch and real-time ETL scripts to process drill rig data sensor streams and produce drilling performance KPIs.
  • Build database models that can be used to translate complex performance data into usable information that objectively depicts Precision’s rig fleet performance.
  • Implement test-driven development and automated testing for Python applications.
  • Assist with the construction and implementation of the operational data stores and data marts.
  • Optimize data pipelines for scalable, event-driven ingestion, transformation, and analysis.
  • Conducting and participating in code reviews and discussions on software design/architecture to provide constructive feedback to team members.
  • Performs data analysis required to troubleshoot data-related issues and assist in the resolution.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation or system workflow as needed.
  • Work closely with all business units and data teams to help develop a strategy for long-term data platform architecture.

Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited University or related Technology diploma or experience



4+ Years as a Data Engineer

4-5 years of Python data development experience

Minimum 2 years’ experience engineering big data platforms and large-scale data initiatives

4+ years of SQL experience

Experience with Testing tools like PyUnit, UnitTesting, etc. is needed

Experience using source code management using Git is a must

Experience building high-performance algorithm pipelines

Familiarity working with Snowflake cloud data warehouse is an asset

Experience with Azure Kubernetes Services is an asset

Experience with Azure DevOps is an asset

Familiarity working with Spotfire is an asset

Familiarity working with Grafana is an asset

Knowledge of ETL performance-tuning techniques

Familiarity with Confluent Kafka is good to have

Oil and gas experience is a plus
