Summary
Team Lead, IT Network Services will be a highly motivated, energetic, and passionate individual to lead the Network Services Team. The Team Lead advises on planning, design, implementation, and controls the installation, maintenance, and administration of network infrastructure, ensuring that the capacity, reliability, and availability of IT network services meet the organization’s requirements. The position requires a broad technical background, strong communication skills, and problem-solving abilities, including various challenges in assisting with day-to-day tasks, technical issues, and project-related tasks.
Responsibilities
- Supervise, manage, and motivate team members daily.
- You will be the contact point for all team members, so communication skills should be excellent. You should also be able to act proactively to ensure smooth team operations and effective collaboration.
- Cooperate effectively with other IT teams/resources to deliver required solutions.
- Ensure frequent, concise communication with the infrastructure Services Manager regarding relevant issues related to the team, infrastructure technologies, risks, or other information as required.
- Ensure team adherence to standard IT practices/policies.
- Ability to explore new ideas and contribute innovatively to network processes or solutions.
- Develop effective business relationships between business staff and self/team members that are cordial, professional, and productive.
- Ensure appropriate resources are in place to meet delivery expectations. Ensure proper team training and knowledge transfer takes place to meet these expectations.
- Oversee and collaborate with vendors to ensure systems and services supplied meet Precision Drilling’s business needs.
- Monitor and manage the following technologies to ensure the availability, reliability, and responsiveness of systems and services:
- All LAN/WAN, Wireless LAN (WLAN), voice, and data network topologies.
- Network security infrastructure, including firewalls, IDS/IPS, and Cloud Services.
- 3rd party telecom services including MPLS, VSAT, VPN, Internet, PSTN.
- Voice services, including VoIP, Cellular, MSAT, and IP Telephony.
- Video Conferencing, including Microsoft Teams.
- Strong hands-on knowledge of at least 3 of the following Cisco networking solutions, including LAN, WAN, switching (L2 & L3), routing (BGP, OSPF, RIP, PVST, EIGRP, etc.), data center, wireless, firewalling, VPN, QoS, & MPLS.
- Proficient in Cisco IOS, IOS-XE and NX-OS.
- Intermediate knowledge of management and configuration of Palo Alto Networks PAN line of firewalls and Panorama Management systems.
- Knowledge of configuration and management of Fortinet Firewalls, with FortiAnalyzer and FortiManager.
- Azure cloud services (Internet of Things - IoT, ExpressRoute) are an asset.
- Operational Technology (OT) Experience or exposure is an asset.
- Knowledge of Managed Security Operations Center (SOC) appliances, configuration, monitoring, and generating security reports.
- Practical experience in information security, including vulnerability testing and security assessments.
- Knowledge of enterprise Microsoft Teams Phone PBX or other cloud PBX systems is an asset.
- Provides leadership for the Network Services team, identifying work priorities and ensuring effective communication within the team and with external partners/stakeholders.
- Communicate unambiguously and listen effectively, ensure organizational messages are delivered on time, issues and concerns are addressed, and foster open communication among team members.
- Clarify performance expectations and help team members achieve success through coaching, mentoring, providing practical and timely feedback, recognizing accomplishments, and providing discipline when appropriate.
- Creates a healthy interpersonal and team-oriented environment.
- Supervising various personnel actions including, but not limited to, hiring, work assignments, scheduling for On-Call support, determining workload, delegating assignments, training, and monitoring.
- Evaluating performance and initiating corrective or disciplinary actions with direct reports.
- Ensures business area satisfaction with regular interaction by managing expectations, understanding service level expectations, and delivering IT solutions promptly and that are cost-effective.
- Supervises vendor performance contractor resources and ensures they are performing competently. Ensures Precision Drilling is receiving services aligned with contractual terms and conditions.
- Building and maintaining strategic relationships with external businesses and partner agencies.
- Ensures that best practices are followed for system delivery, implementation, and maintenance by employee-partners and contractors.
- Prepares and stewards to department and project budgets.
- Rotational On-Call required.

Education
Post-secondary education (degree or diploma) in computing and at least 10 years equivalent work experience, including a minimum of 3 years in a leadership role.
Certification in CCNA, CCNP, CCIE an asset.
Palo Alto Networks Certified Network Security Engineer (PCNSE) an asset.
Experience
Three plus years in an IT leadership role.
Azure / Microsoft Express Route experience.
Solid understanding of the Fortinet Ecosystem, certifications are an asset.
Solid understanding of Networking Concepts with protocols of all core technologies (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, SMTP, OSPF, IMAP, LDAP, SMB, SSH, VPN, NAT, IPSec, VoIP, etc.).
Extensive hands-on network management expertise, including setup, troubleshooting, and network security.
Expert knowledge of networking layers 2 and 3.
Network security infrastructure, including firewalls, HTTP filters, IDS/IPS, and Cloud Services.
Hardware upgrades, maintenance and troubleshooting skills.
Experience with Windows servers, AD, VMWare/vSphere, Azure Cloud and Linux.
