Rig Electrician Technician

Location:  Brighton, Colorado

Work Schedule:  Rotational: 14 days on 14 days off

 

The Drilling Rig Electrician is responsible for installing and maintaining electrical wiring and equipment as it relates to land-based drilling rigs. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

 

  • Installing and maintaining silicon-controlled rectifier (SCR) unit, Variable Frequency Drives (VFD) equipment, and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) systems
  • Maintaining an inventory of electrical spare equipment, housed at the rigs or in the shop
  • Testing circuit connections using electrical test equipment
  • Installing and repairing lighting systems when required
  • Repairing electrical equipment such as panel lighting, circuit breakers, junction boxes, voltage regulators, and reverse current relays
  • Participating in ongoing training and company safety programs for new equipment and technologies as it becomes necessary, including days off for training
  • Coordinating with Electrical Foreman on the repair and refurbishment of equipment
  • Planning and proposing both maintenance required and routine repairs budget
  • Working closely with electrical contractors to ensure the best needs of the company are being met
  • Working very closely with rig crews to ensure proper training and to ensure that electronic safety systems are not bypassed
  • Adhere to all company policies, including Key Beliefs, Core Values, and Target Zero Rules
  • Maintain a safe and organized work area throughout all tasks and upon completion of tasks
  • Maintain detailed and accurate documentation such as inspections, test results, repair work notes, parts sheets, expense reports, and timesheets on a daily basis
  • Be available to provide 24-hour support in response to mechanical breakdowns, if necessary

 

Level 1:

  • 1-3 years of rig electrical experience is preferred
  • High School Diploma/equivalent or relevant craft certificate
  • Basic diagnosing and troubleshooting knowledge of hydraulic systems
  • Works under supervision
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Computer literacy
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Suite, especially: Excel, Word, and Outlook

Level 2: 

  • 5-10 years of experience diagnosing, repairing, and overhauling drilling equipment
  • High School Diploma/equivalent or relevant craft certificate
  • Basic diagnosing and troubleshooting knowledge of hydraulic systems
  • Reading equipment schematics with a good understanding of symbols
  • Work independently under limited supervision
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Computer literacy
  • Basic SAP abilities, specifically: notifications and maintenance compliance report
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Suite, especially: Excel, Word and Outlook
  • Knowledge working with Amphion Drilling Controls and Single Board Computers (SBC)
  • Ross Hill and Woodward Generator control experience
  • Amphion Drilling Controls experience is a must for Level 2 employees

Level 3:

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience diagnosing, repairing, and overhauling drilling equipment
  • High School Diploma or proof of completion of formal education or relevant craft certificate
  • Expert diagnosing and troubleshooting knowledge of Advanced hydraulic systems
  • Reading equipment schematics with an excellent understanding of symbols
  • Work independently, without supervision or assistance
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Computer literacy
  • Proficiency with SAP, specifically: notifications, maintenance compliance report, and building work orders
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Suite, especially: Excel, Word, and Outlook

 

Requirements:

  • Must pass Physical, Drug Screen and Background Check
  • Must hold a valid driver license
