The Automation Controls Technician supports, integrates, and optimizes EverGreen and rig‑level control systems across Precision’s North American fleet. Our EverGreen technologies empower clients to monitor and minimize their environmental footprint during operations, assisting them to use power generation efficiently.

DAY IN THE LIFE:
- Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, Supply Chain, and Field teams to prepare for upcoming EverGreen and rig control system deployments—making sure equipment, documentation, and software are ready to go
- Support and lead the setup, commissioning, and testing of automation and control systems (PLCs, HMI/SCADA, generator controls), helping ensure everything runs safely and reliably
- Review electrical and control drawings—like single-line diagrams, wiring schematics, and I/O lists—to confirm systems are installed and integrated correctly
- Travel to rig sites across North America to troubleshoot and resolve electrical, controls, or communication issues, often working independently in the field
- Investigate system issues, identify root causes, document solutions, and help implement improvements—while following safe work practices, including lockout/tagout and functional testing
WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU:
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience with drilling rig control systems, power systems, and integrations
- Strong working knowledge of drilling rig activities, rig electrical systems, communications protocols (e.g., Modbus, CANbus, Ethernet/IP), and measurement systems
- Journeyman Electrician, or Technical Degree in a relevant field like Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience
- Experience with PLC/HMI/SBC platforms common to industrial rigs (e.g., Beckhoff, Woodward, ABB, Moxa)
- Advanced troubleshooting of industrial networking (managed switches, VLANs, NAT, routing) and instrumentation
