Director, HSE
Summary
Reporting to the Vice President of Global HSE, the Director, HSE is responsible for the HSE Program and all aspects of the HSE Management System (MS). The Director, HSE will be a recognized leader and subject matter expert in HSE leading edge strategies and methodologies such as Human and Organizational Performance (HOP), Learning Teams, and Serious Injuries and Fatalities (SIF).
Responsibilities
- Leading and managing Corporate HSE Program team and responsible for the development, deployment, and implementation of the HSE Strategy, strategic initiatives, and overall program.
- Provides leadership, coaching, and mentoring to HSE and Operations to implement and deliver on our Safe Operations Strategy through building and sustaining an Operational Learning Culture.
- Drives implementation of the HSE Management System (MS) and measures organizational compliance and effectiveness through verification and validation (Assurance Program).
- Establishing, analyzing, managing, reporting/communicating, and tracking companywide HSE trends, metrics, and key performance indicators. Work to rebalance the scorecard from lagging to leading indicators such as Serious Injuries and Fatalities (SIF) and potential SIF versus Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR).
- Working with the VP of Global HSE to maintain the HSE budgets, staffing plans, and professional development of the HSE Team.
- Working with the VP of Global HSE to administer the Corporate Crisis Management Plan and Field Emergency Response Plans.
- Formulating and recommending standards, policies, procedures, and long-range programs related to HSE on leading indicators, industry trends, and best practices.
- Proactively building relationships and credibility through Precision’s Operations globally to ensure the HSE function is delivering value.
- Establishes and maintains necessary contact with relevant regulatory agencies and professional societies and monitors regulatory developments related to all key areas. Advises key stakeholders on potential business impacts; develops solutions and leads implementation.
- Partnering with the Field Training and Development Team on designing, planning, and implementing HSE training for employees.
- Working with the VP Global HSE and other departments on Precision’s Corporate ESG Strategy, metrics, and reporting aligned with TCFD, GRI, SASB, GHG Protocol, Carbon Disclosure Project, and the needs of investors and internal and external stakeholders.
- Responsible for enterprise-wide Management of Change and Corrective Actions, including follow-up for compliance (verification) and effectiveness (validation).
- Responsible for driving thoroughness and value of Incident Investigations (cause mapping and why analysis), Corrective Actions, and HSE Communications.
- Maintains overall responsibility for all aspects of the HSE MS Assurance program and protocols: including performing audits, developing auditors, scheduling audit teams, conducting audit follow-up, preparing audit reports and reviews, and coordinating any required external audits (e.g., Certificate of Recognition Audits in Canada).
- Working with the HSE MS Team on contractor management risk assessments and applicable audits; management of HSE MS Document Control; and timely external and industry reporting and external regulatory notifications.
- Extensive travel to Precision Drilling remote locations (24/7 Operations).
- Manage Corporate and Field budgets.
- Work in matrix organization.

Proficient in Canada and USA regulatory, standards, and industry best practices.

Demonstrated experience and working knowledge of legislation, standards and industry best practices impacting HSE.
Superior ability to think strategically, innovatively, and laterally to generate new ideas and paradigms.
High level of analysis skills to identify issues and develop recommendations to address causal factors contributing to the occurrence of incidents and near misses.
Superior listening skills and interpretive capabilities to gather, understand and analyses relevant information from investigations and audits.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Health, Safety, and Environment or equivalent qualification.
HSE and/or Audit industry-recognized/applicable Certification.
Experience
+15 years of HSE experience with demonstrated track record of success.
3 years minimum senior management level experience.
Successful program and project management experience, with a focus on continuous improvement
Proven leadership that has resulted in improved performance across diversified organizations and locations.
Strategic perspective with the ability to implement and drive results.

Strong business acumen in oil and gas operations.
