The Lead Engineer is responsible to apply knowledge, experience, and available resources in the development and application of equipment or processes in an ethical and professional manner. Responsibilities include:



  • Leading regional Engineering projects while collaborating with other departments (e.g. Operations, Purchasing, Manufacturing, Marketing, HSE, EAM, Technology Projects, etc.) to ensure project success with seamless quality of engineering solutions;
  • Planning and evaluating progress to meet Engineering department objectives as established in conjunction with Precision operations;
  • Developing, reviewing, evaluating, and recommending upgrades to existing equipment and practices;
  • Evaluating various mechanical products under consideration for purchase to determine their efficiency and cost-effectiveness;
  • Coordinating and leading projects, making detailed plans to accomplish goals and directing the integration of technical activities throughout the organization;
  • Concept and design analysis with creation of comprehensive detailed fabrication packages;
  • Analysis of operational data with process reviews to create efficiencies, improve turnaround times, and optimize safe, reliable equipment function;
  • Responsible for delivering project plans, costing, and coordinating the efforts of other engineers, technicians, designers, and drafters to support cross-functional collaboration;
  • Creating and maintaining comprehensive project documentation;
  • Ensuring that designs are safe, efficient, effective, and able to be manufactured;
  • Accountable for mid to large scale projects with project management, and quality control duties;
  • Conducting final inspections, with a team approach to commissioning oversight and final sign-offs;
  • Ensuring ongoing compliance with local, national, and international standards and legislation; and,
  • Various other duties and special projects as assigned by the Manager

Working knowledge of relevant legislative compliance;

Highly motivated, self-directed individual capable of multi-tasking, and working with minimal supervision;

Ability to travel as out of office work is required;



University degree in Mechanical Engineering with regional Professional Engineering status accreditation



10+ years direct work experience with drilling rigs, drilling components & drilling equipment design.

High level of proficiency with Autodesk Inventor, and Microsoft Office software is essential;

Experience with other 3D software, FEA, Ansys, and Safi is an asset;

Practical experience with drilling rig equipment;
