The Operations Engineer provides hands-on engineering support for Precision Drilling’s fleet and equipment throughout its lifecycle, from assessment and design through fabrication, commissioning, and operational support. This role partners with cross-functional teams to develop and implement safe, reliable, and practical engineering solutions that enhance equipment performance, operational efficiency, and fleet reliability.

DAY IN THE LIFE:

  • Lead complex engineering initiatives and fleet improvement programs from concept through implementation, ensuring alignment with operational, safety, reliability, and business objectives
  • Serve as a technical subject matter expert, providing advanced engineering analysis, troubleshooting, root cause investigations, and guidance on fleet equipment and operations
  • Drive continuous improvement and asset performance strategies by leveraging operational, maintenance, and reliability data to reduce downtime and optimize lifecycle costs
  • Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to evaluate new technologies, develop engineering solutions, establish technical standards, and ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and regulations
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship, ensure the quality and timely delivery of engineering work, and perform other duties and special projects in support of operational and business objectives

 

WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and Professional Engineer (P.E.) designation required
  • 8-10 years of engineering experience in equipment design, fabrication, commissioning, maintenance, or modification, preferably in drilling, mining, construction, or other heavy industrial environments
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD and modeling software (Autodesk Inventor preferred); experience with structural analysis tools such as ANSYS and SAFI is an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of applicable engineering codes, standards, and regulations, with the ability to lead projects, solve complex problems, and collaborate effectively across multiple stakeholder groups
  • Self-motivated and results-oriented professional with strong communication skills, Microsoft Office proficiency, a valid Class 5 driver’s license, and the ability to travel within North America (~10%) as required
