Summary
The Purchaser, Inventory Coordinator is responsible for the procurement of commodities, supplies, and equipment to be used by the Operations Support Centers while ensuring inventory levels are maintained to a degree that matches the fluctuating demand of products, activity, and turnover. This individual will utilize expert knowledge to purchase goods and services that meet quality requirements and specifications at the most favorable price for the company, while simultaneously building and maintaining strategic relationships with key suppliers.
Responsibilities
- Planning, organizing, directing, controlling and evaluating purchasing activities;
- Utilize up to date purchasing procedures and efficiencies;
- Ensuring Purchase Requests are identified and actioned upon immediately;
- Ensure all orders are processed, issued and completed on a timely basis;
- Assist maintenance department(s) with the creation of equipment BOM’s;
- Review purchase requisitions and purchase orders for accuracy in terms of materials, pricing, value;
- Effectively monitor open purchase requisitions, reservations, purchase orders while updating delivery lead times as needed;
- Establish delivery schedules, monitor progress and contact suppliers to resolve issues;
- Advise department of lead time required to obtain products or services; and, make alternate arrangements in the event of shortages or delayed deliveries to minimize impact on the organization.
- Analyze inventory requirements based on maintenance trends, product availability and current inventory levels;
- Identify alternative vendors of materials, equipment and supplies;
- Identify available materials, equipment and supplies from other inventory locations;
- Creation of new materials and identification of substitutes for various products (HERS);
- Ensuring material masters are utilized to the fullest by self and teams members;
- Assigning storage locations for inventory products and restock bin locations as required;
- Working with financial systems, in particular, SAP purchasing modules;
- Working within company purchasing policies and procedures;
- Maintain up to date Vendor Invoice Management (VIM)
- Identify obsolete materials for annual disposal;
- Assist in attaining pricing agreements with suppliers;
- Assist with pre-inventory warehouse preparations for quarterly cycle counts and annual physical count;
- Adhering to company safety guideline and procedures;
- Participate in after hour on-call rotation schedule as required;
- Various other duties as required;
Knowledge & Skills
Exceptional oral and written communication skills to communicate effectively with all levels within the organization and with external stakeholders;
Considerable knowledge of laws, ordinances, and regulations pertaining to corporate purchasing practices;
Strong computer skills in a Windows and SAP environment;
A well-defined sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation skills;
Attention to detail with the ability to multi-task;
Able to work efficiently as a part of a team as well as independently; and,
Excellent time and project management skills.
Education
Degree or diploma in a related discipline considered an asset
Experience
Minimum 3 year’s experience in product procurement;
Drilling rig product knowledge an asset;
Experience in SAP purchasing and inventory an asset;
MRP experience required Candidate MUST achieve 80%+ within first 90 days.
