The following restrictions apply to all internship candidates:

  • Applicants must be available for a non-negotiable start date of Monday, May 4, 2026 – Nisku Start date.
  • Applicants must be 18 years or older.
  • Applicants must have housing accommodations or transportation in the  Nisku area, as Precision does not provide internship housing.
  • By May 4, 2026, applicants must have completed at least their first year of study in a post-secondary program/Technical Institute (see job posting). 

 

Summary

 

The Mechanical Engineering Intern will work a summer or Co-Op work term with Precision Drilling in both the office and field/shop environments. The intern will work closely with the Engineering team, made up of professional engineers, technologists and EIT’s. The intern will interface with Operations personnel to develop a practical understanding of drilling rigs and drilling operations. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Working closely with the engineering team to support ongoing projects throughout Canada
  • You will be a full member of the Operations Engineering team, with field/shop exposure as required by projects
  • You will be exposed to technical aspects of providing support to drilling rigs operating in the field and/or new equipment designs
  • You will have exposure to typical 2D & 3D design software packages, mechanical and structural analysis software, as well as the typical Microsoft Office suite products.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Excellent time management skills
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Great communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to work well within a multi-disciplined team
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Valid Driver's License with good driving record

Education

  • Enrolled in an Engineering program, with a focus on Mechanical Engineering

Experience

  • Drafting/Design experience with AutoCAD and Inventor (or equivalent 2D and 3D software) is an asset
  • Experience with oil drilling rig equipment or other mechanical equipment would be an asset, but not a requirement
  • Previous experience working in a hands-on and labour-intensive environment (farming, automotive, mechanics, etc.) is an asset, but not a requirement
